About Me

My photo
I am a below knee amputee. More importantly, I am also Mommy to two boys, a very active 10 year old (Robby) and an mischievous toddler (Timmy). I have learned that being a parent with a disability can create some unusual and sometimes humorous situations. This blogger is available for hire! Too Big

I am increasingly frustrated with my now-too-big leg. I waited for my new leg for years, making due with an ill-fitting socket that caused near constant discomfort. I was walking on air when I received my new leg. It provided a comfort that I haven't experienced in years.

My new leg, combined with Friend's love for long walks, has caused me to shed considerable weight. I'm delighted that I've dropped sizes and my clothes are now baggy. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished. The weight loss also means that my socket no longer fits. I feel like I had a taste of complete comfort only to have it yanked away from me.

My days of walking without leg anxiety are gone. I'm nervous every time I go for a long walk because I never know when the leg will fall off. I've used socks and numerous other "hacks" to try to pad my leg, but each solution is temporary. I need another new socket.

Hopefully it won't take as long this time!

Dreary

 Yikes!

I have a new appreciation for why Scott and I have delayed replacing our roof. I was expecting it to be expensive, but I was not prepared for the final tab. Right now we are reeling with sticker shock, but I know that we will have to go forward. We are planning to move next summer, so we are considering this an investment in our home value.

Last night we had a torrential downpour. Scott and I have both dreaded heavy rain because it leaks down our fireplace. This time, all I could think about was listening to the rain without fearing the impact on our roof and home. It will be nice to sit back and relax during the first storm after our new roof is installed. The loans, paperwork and repairs stink, but I know that the result will be amazing.

Today it will be dreary and wet. Welcome to Spring in Virginia. I plan on taking the opportunity and motivating the boys to get ahead in their classes. I know when the weather is nice they will appreciate the free-time. Hopefully they agree with my plan!

Procrastination

Scott and I share a tendency towards procrastination. Having both individuals in the couple lean towards procrastination is not a benefit, especially when things need to get done. Overtime, we have both chipped away at our avoidance. Becoming a mom and working from home has formed organization upon me. If I don't have my schedule, I'm lost. With organization has come a marked decrease in procrastinating, with one glaring exception.

When it comes to maintenance around the house and cars I definitely fall short. I fully admit that I habitually push back addressing a growing issue until I am absolutely forced (usually by a massive failure of the item) to take action. After every household emergency repair, Scott and I vow that we have seen the issues that arose because of our procrastination. We promise each other that we will never do it again and that we were going to be more responsible with upkeep. Our resolutions usually last until the next emerging repair starts to sneak into our lives. We both look at the repair, our bank account and the frustrations involved with securing a fix before collectively turning our eyes and walking away.

We have decided that we have let our roof go far enough. A replacement is not only needed it has become absolutely necessary. I abhor the idea of having a new roof put onto our house. From the noise to the mess, I am dreading it all. Living under a tarp would be far worse.

When dealing with our roof, Scott and I were both able to break out of our "emergency" repair tendencies. We definitely put it off for too long, but we are not at in an emergency situation. Today roofers are scheduled to come over to provide estimates. Hopefully by this time next week we will have a schedule for the work. I'm looking forward to the process being complete and not having to worry about the rain anymore.

Weekend Wrap-Up

 Happy Monday!

I had a fantastic weekend doing absolutely nothing of importance. The weather was favorable, allowing me ample opportunities to work with Friend on his leash walking skills. He is improving, but his urge to chase cars and squirrels is strong. Wearing my treat pouch on my hip, I'm determined that he will learn his manners when we stroll through the neighborhood.

Because we didn't go anywhere over the weekend, I was able to get a lot of work done yesterday. I always feel more comfortable beginning a new work week ahead. Because everything can spiral into chaos quickly, it is nice to have a buffer and know that I won't fall behind where it counts.

Not only did I accomplish a lot of work, but I also managed two solid nights of sleep. I've had huge sleep issues for years, so the fact that I slept for more than 6 hours is remarkable. Sunday morning I didn't wake until nearly 10 AM! I actually slept nearly 11 hours, which left me feeling at least a decade younger.

I'm starting this new week energized with reduced stress. Hopefully everything continues on this path. Have a great day!
