About Me

My photo
I am a below knee amputee. More importantly, I am also Mommy to two boys, a very active 10 year old (Robby) and an mischievous toddler (Timmy). I have learned that being a parent with a disability can create some unusual and sometimes humorous situations. This blogger is available for hire! Let's talk and learn how a blog can expand your business.

21 years

Yesterday was productive albeit boring. I woke early and worked until the late afternoon, catching up on some projects that needed my attention. The boys spent the majority of their days in their respective bedrooms, watching television and playing on computers. After spending several days in cramped and hot quarters, it was nice to spread out and seek some alone time.

I suspect that today will be a repeat of yesterday. Between the heat and trying to avoid contact activities, Timmy is becoming very bored this summer. Because of his broken arm he has not been able to participate in his tumble camp or ride his bike. For a 10 year old in the summer, removing those two options has been nearly catastrophic.  The ortho advised that we keep him from falling until the Fourth of July. After that date, his bones should be thoroughly cemented and the risk of a rebreak nearly mirror his uninjured arm.

The Fourth of July is tomorrow which will officially end, according to the doctor, Timmy's treatment for his broken arm. It has been a long three months and I know he is eager to return to normal. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and he will be able to spend the majority of the time outside playing. Today however will be occupied by playing inside and waiting for the heat to break.

Today also marks 21 years since my foot was amputated. My goodness.  My amputation is now of legal drinking age.

Home

After a whirlwind trip to Ohio we are home safe and sound. Sleeping in a real bed in a room with air conditioning last night felt like a vacation. I am simply too old to sleep on an air mattress in a sauna. I feel like it is going to take me a week for my body to recover from our Ohio getaway.

Everybody came home last night and scattered to their own room or favorite area of the house. After having a family sleep over in the same hot room, we were all eager to get away from each other. Even Friend seemed happy to chill on his little perch in the window.

This morning I woke early to get work done while everybody else is sleeping. I'm so tired from the trip that I suspect a nap may be in my future. In the meantime, I'm off to get more coffee...
