About Me

My photo
I am a below knee amputee. More importantly, I am also Mommy to two boys, a very active 10 year old (Robby) and an mischievous toddler (Timmy). I have learned that being a parent with a disability can create some unusual and sometimes humorous situations. This blogger is available for hire! Let's talk and learn how a blog can expand your business.

Pie Face!

It has been miserably hot and muggy. Unfortunately, yesterday was busy with work, school and chauffeuring Robby to his music lessons so we weren't able to swim. By the time I was finally done with everything in the afternoon the skies opened and storms rolled through the area. Sigh. Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to play a little.

I've been trying hard to contain my anxiety about the sudden increase for my assistance and attention. I definitely became spoiled over the summer. While I had to wake up early to work, I didn't have to focus on anything else. I worked, played, cooked and worked again.

Now I feel like I'm chasing my tail just to stay afloat. I know that the dust will settle and my schedule will become comfortable, but right now I'm exhausted and frazzled. After working all day and into the evening, I was desperate for a little silliness. I called Timmy to the dining room and pulled out an old favorite- Pie Face.

My day was busy and stressful, but we definitely ended with laughter.

*On a side note, Timmy would be delighted to gain subscribers to his YouTube channel.

Back on Mute

School started on Monday, but yesterday was Timmy's first virtual class with his teacher and classmates. He was excited for art and changed into his painting shirt almost as soon as he woke up. Wanting to him to be more independent with his classes, I helped him gather the supplies and log into his class. I then grabbed my computer to work in the kitchen while he was in class at the dining room table.

From what I heard, he seemed to be enjoying the class. He followed the teacher's directions and was able to stay on task. When his teacher asked the students to quickly find something small and round to trace, Timmy took off like a rocket down the hallway.

Because I was working on my own projects, I wasn't tuned into what Timmy grabbed to trace. When his teacher asked him what he found, he proudly held it up for everybody to see and said, "I found my brother's big boobie glass. It is round."

Yikes! I jumped out of the kitchen stool and watched (in horror) as my sweet little boy was proudly showing Robby's novelty big busted bikini shot glass for his class to see. Almost immediately he was put on mute for the first, but certainly not the last, time this school year.

First Day Wrap-Up

Our first day of school is officially in the books. I am so proud of both of my boys. Neither one complained about their work, and both of them sat down and started their tasks when the chime on our Echo rang. (By the way, using Alexa to help schedule the day has been a game changer!) I'm cautiously optimistic that this trend might continue, although I am not naive enough to believe that I will never hear complaints.

While Robby was completely independent, Timmy needed my help to navigate through his classes. His day was full of making videos (he needs my help) and assessments (he needed my help to log in and to help him navigate the platform). Hopefully the work will become more independent as he settles into the curriculum. In the meantime, I am getting up earlier (and staying up later) so that I can concentrate on my own work.

Here's to a great day 2!

New School Year!

Ready or not, the 2021/22 school year is officially beginning. This morning my Koopa starting 10th grade and Timmy is officially a 1st grader. My goodness, they are growing up way too fast! For a myriad of reasons, both boys are continuing with cyber school this year.

Because their classroom will be our home, I spent the weekend cleaning and prepping their study areas. I ended up going down a rabbit hole cleaning and organizing. I spent Saturday night playing furniture Tetris in the living room. After multiple configurations I finally settled on a layout that works. Or at least, it works for now.

Yesterday I planned on relaxing and getting mentally prepared for the upcoming school year. Instead I ended up purging, organizing and cleaning our bedroom and computer room. After four hours and three ginormous trash bags were filled, the rooms look fantastic.

The pencils are sharpened and the crayons are ready. Our laptops are charged and the printer is full of ink and paper. Bring on the new school year, we're ready!
