About Me

My photo
I am a below knee amputee. More importantly, I am also Mommy to two boys, a very active 10 year old (Robby) and an mischievous toddler (Timmy). I have learned that being a parent with a disability can create some unusual and sometimes humorous situations. This blogger is available for hire! Let's talk and learn how a blog can expand your business.

Mom and Scott

We received amazing news about my Mom.  Although she did indeed break her femur, the knee replacement is not compromised. The bone is aligned and the surgeon felt that operating is not necessary. She needs to remain in the immobilizer and continue to refrain from weighting her leg for the next several weeks/ months. She is uncomfortable and miserable, but she won't need surgery!

Unfortunately the prospect of hosting Thanksgiving while in an immobilizer was overwhelming so we have decided to scale back this year. My cousins won't be coming, but the Cousin Crew will be together. I've decided that this unfortunate situation may be the perfect opportunity to create a Cousin Crew Thanksgiving Extravaganza!  I'm thinking junk food, games, bowling and other adventures. Perhaps hearing all of the grandkids squealing with laughter will be the best medicine for my mom.

The countdown is on for Scott's new job. He starts on Monday and the excitement is palpable. Meeting with at-risk students to help break down their barriers to success, whatever they may be, is a perfect use of his skills and experience. He has always related well with teens and I know that these kids are going to benefit from him being there.

While I'm delighted for his new professional adventure, I am probably more enthusiastic about his current role coming to an end. The position which shall never be discussed again (lol) has been a nightmare for him and for our entire family. I feel like we have been living under an umbrella of misery but forecasts are calling for sunny skies and smoother sailing.

By this time tomorrow, he will be completing his final day, and we will be able to turn the page on an extremely difficult chapter in our lives.
